Liposculpture, Liposuction, and Smart Water Lipo
Both Liposuction and Liposculpture are not intended for weight loss. Instead, both are intended to rid the body of stubborn fat deposits that will not respond to diet and exercise.
Both Lipsoction and Liposculpture are done under a local anesthetic with normal activities (with minor restrictions) resuming the very next day.
Both Liposuction and LipoSculpture use a cannula — a long, thin, hollow surgical tube — inserted through equally small surgical openings in the skin. The cannula is connected to an aspirator, a suction device that removes the fat.
Dr. Peers uses two technologies to remove the unwanted fat: Smart Lipo and the newest Water Jet Lipo (also called Body Jet). With Smart Lipo, the fat is first melted and then suctioned out. With the Water Jet Lipo, the fat is simply washed out. Both have the pros and cons so Dr. Peers has developed his own technique called Smart Water Lipo™.

QUICK RECOVERY, MINIMAL DOWNTIME, NATURAL RESULTS
Liposculpture, SmartLipo ™, Smart Water Lipo ™ , laser lipo and Body Jet are safe, effective ways to get a more sculpted body, reduce fat, and tighten skin. These body sculpting procedures are used to reshape problem body areas such as the abdomen, waist, hips, thighs, “love handles”, male breasts, arms, face, jaw line, double chin, neck, and more.
REMOVE UNWANTED FAT PAINLESSLY, WITH MINIMAL DOWNTIME
Dr. Peers has developed his advanced liposculpture technique that permanently removes unwanted fat without causing significant discomfort, bruising, or uneven results. Dr. Peers’s approach to fat reduction and body sculpting is unique because he uses combinations of Liposculpture, SmartLipo ™, and Body Jet for patients. Not every patient needs a combination, but because SmartLipo™ has the added effect of melting fat and tightening the skin, it is almost always used in combination with Liposculpture or Body Jet. For very small areas, such as chin, bra bulge, or for patients with loose, lax skin, SmartLipo ™ is extremely effective and may be used alone for excellent results.
LIPOSCULPTURE FAQS
Q: What is Liposculpture?
A. Liposculpture is a more refined, advanced form of liposuction that removes fat deposits through thin metal tubes or cannulas using tiny entry incisions. As specialists like Dr. Peers developed the art of liposuction using smaller cannulas, it became known as liposculpture. The procedure is done under local anesthesia with an oral sedative to enhance patient comfort. Liposculpture can be performed in conjunction with the newest fat transfer techniques.
Q : What areas of the body can be treated with liposculpture?
A. Dr. Peers’s liposculpture techniques allow virtually any area of the body to be treated including saddle bags, double chins, the abdomen, chest, love handles, hips, thighs, and arms.
Q : How do I know if I’m a good candidate for liposculpture?
A. You may be a good candidate for liposculpture if you are healthy with a good skin tone and a moderate amount of excess fat that you would like to improve. You should not be more than 30 pounds overweight. Dr. Peers can confirm whether or not liposculpture would be right for you during a consultation.
Q: What happens during a consultation for liposculpture?
A. During the consultation with Dr. Peers, you will be shown before and after photographs of previous liposculpture patients and given an idea of what results you can realistically expect. Any questions that you have will be answered and Dr. Peers who will discuss the benefits and risks of liposculpture to help you make an informed decision. Listening to some of our patients own stories might help you as well.
Q: Are consultations free?
A. Yes. Our office does not charge for consultations. If you have any questions about the procedure or simply wish to meet with and be evaluated by Dr. Peers, please call our office and schedule a time for a complimentary consultation. If you live out of the area, Dr. Peers will also do a consultation over the phone.
Q: Why do people want Liposculpture?
A. A variety of reasons prompt liposcuplture, the most significant of which is usually that the patient has unwanted deposits of fat that will not go away in spite of exercise and dieting. Liposculpture helps to improve appearance, confidence and self-esteem, and aesthetic body proportions. In some cases, people use Liposcupture to “kick start” a lifestyle modification program that includes a better diet and an exercise program.
Q: How much fat can be removed?
A. Some patients require fat to be removed from many areas of their bodies. This is definitely an option. However, Dr. Peers’ priority is safety—he has never ever had a patient experience a serious complication. He is careful, cautious, and realistic in determining an appropriate candidate for the liposculpture and the maximum number of areas that can be safely treated during any single procedure.
The amount of fat removed from each patient varies and depends on what is best for your body. The goal of liposculpture is not to remove as much fat as possible—the goal of liposculpture is to sculpt your body, have a balanced, aesthetically pleasing result, and make you look as dramatic as possible while leaving you looking natural and smooth.
Q: Where does Dr. Peers perform the liposculpture procedure?
A. Dr. Peers performs liposculpture in our state-of-the-art, Indiana-licensed outpatient surgery center in our office. The center is across from Goshen Hospital, where Dr. Peers has privileges.
Q: Can I do liposculpture if I live out-of-town?
A. Yes. Domestic and international patients are welcome. We have patients from all over. They have found our gentle caring approach to Liposculpture and Liposuction as compared to larger cities make the process a pleasant surprise. After your procedure, you will be given all the medications and garments that you need for your recovery. You will need to stay overnight at a local hotel so we can check your progress the next morning. Patient safety is our priority.
Q: How is the liposculpture procedure performed?
A. The liposculpture procedure involves local infiltration with a solution containing lidocaine and sterile saline. To facilitate the fat removal, laser energy may be used to first soften the fat tissue (Smart Lipo or Smart Water Lipo). The fat cells are then dislodged with the Water Jet and removed using small instruments.
Q: Can I drive myself home after my liposculpture procedure?
A. Because sedation is used for the liposculpture procedure, you will need someone else to drive you home afterward.
Q: Will the liposculpture procedure leave scars?
A. Because only very small skin openings of less than a quarter of an inch are used to remove the fat, the resulting scars tend to be unnoticeable and well-concealed.
Q: Will I experience much pain after my liposculpture procedure?
A. Patients can expect to experience some soreness after the liposculpture procedure that is easily handled by our prescribed pain medication.
Q: What can I expect of the recovery after liposculpture?
A. During the recovery after liposculpture or laser lipo, patients will wear a thin compression garment under their clothing. Some soreness can be expected. If bruising or swelling should occur, it resolves within two to three weeks. You can help to speed the healing process with warm baths and gentle massages. The final result is usually apparent after three full months.
Q: When can I return to work after undergoing liposculpture?
A. In most cases patients can return to work within forty-eight to seventy-two hours after the liposculpture procedure.
Q: How soon can I exercise after undergoing liposculpture?
A. Exercise can be resumed within one week after the liposculpture procedure.
Q: When will my stitches be removed after my liposculpture procedure? Will I have stiches from my Lipsculpture procedure?
A. No stiches are required because the incisions are so small, they heal naturally.
Q: What are the risks of liposculpture?
A. Cosmetic surgery, like any surgery, has risks. During your consultation, possible complications will be discussed in detail to enable you to make an informed decision. Despite any risks, liposculpture is a safer and more affordable choice than ever before.
Q: Is liposculpture covered by insurance?
A. Liposculpture is considered cosmetic and is usually not covered by insurance. We do have financing available, however, for those who are interested.
Q: Are the results of liposculpture permanent?
A. The fat cells removed through liposculpture do not return. However, that does not mean that all fat cells in the body are gone. Provided that patients follow a healthy lifestyle that includes exercise and proper diet, the results can be long lasting. If the patient gains weight, the remaining cells will enlarge.
